FamiliesChangeFamilies Change: A Book for Children Experiencing Termination of Parental Rights (Kids Are Important Series) by Julie Nelson – This picture book deals with the difficult topic of termination of parental rights for children who are in foster care or who have been removed from their home due to safety issues in a easy to understand way.  It helps kids through the transition telling them that it’s okay to remember the good times and the bad times, and helps them know that all families change in some ways. This is a great book for helping younger foster children understand that change isn’t always a bad thing and that all families go through changes.  The last few pages offer a serious message to parents, foster parents, social workers, teachers, and caregivers, offering basic information about how to support and encourage young children amidst the terrifying crossroad of the termination of parental rights, as well as a list of resources and organizations created to help such children and those who look after them. price $8.99 kindle price $7.99

9781451533132_p0_v2_s260x420Cassie Wonders: Adoption Questions asked by a 6 1/2 year old by Jennifer Knoth & Illustrations by Cassiopeia–   This is a great book written with the help of her mom by a 6 1/2 year old adoptee. Cassie also illustrates all the pages.  She talks about her where she likes to be when she asks her mom hard questions, and how she is scared to ask some questions because she is worried about the answer. When her mom does answer the scary question she gets angry and her mom explains that that’s okay but sometimes things aren’t always fair. This is a great book to help kids feel comfortable asking about their adoption and seeing that other people have the same types of questions as they may have. price $8.99

51nI5Oex8pL._SY344_PJlook-inside-v2,TopRight,1,0_SH20_BO1,204,203,200_My 2 Secrets: An Adoption Story by Michele Byrd – Most adoption books tell you the story of an adoptive parent, their struggle through infertility, the hoop jumping and red tape of adoption and ultimately the joy of a successful adoption. My 2 Secrets tells the adoption story from the perspective of a birth mother.  This is a short but powerful story of a woman who places not one but two children for adoption and her struggle to keep this a secret and then ultimately come to terms with it.  For adoptive parents this is an essential read to help get them out of their story and put them in the position of a pregnant woman trying to come to terms with one of the hardest decisions of her life.  amazon  price $12.43 Kindle edition $2.99
