978-1-84905-942-8Can I Tell You About Adoption?: A Guide for Friends, Family and Professionals by Anne Braff Brodzinsky– This is an honest explanation for children trying to understand their own story which in turn helps them to inform those around them.  It could be very useful to empower children to tell their story, stop annoying questions about their adoption, and help others understand adoption. Since this book was written in the UK there are some words like push chair (stroller to those of us in the US) which you may need to explain to your child but there is a lot of good honest easy to understand information.  I’m not exactly sure what age child this would be good for but I am thinking maybe 8+ years. amazon.com price $8.37 kindle price $7.95

How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk by Adele Faber & Elaine Mazlish –This is a great book for anyone who interacts with children.  This book is filled with suggestions, techniques and ideas for people committed to interacting with kids without resorting to punitive methods.  It is a whole new way of thinking about adult/child relationships that allows everyone to win.  When you change the way you speak to people and how you interact with them their behavior changes.  This book shows you how to step aside of reaction and start finding ways to listen consciously.  When you stop focusing on your reaction and what the other person is saying you may find that what they are saying is not what they are really trying to communicate.  This is particularly helpful when interacting with adopted children around birth families. This book may have been written a while ago but it the lessons are timeless.   amazon.com $11.59  kindle edition $10.58
